A Hillington Park business has recruited three new members of staff after dropping into The Experience for a cup of tea.
Steven McCaw, Managing Director of DMS Installations on Montrose Avenue, first met some of his new employees whilst they were participating in an employability scheme for young people.
The Youth Employability Scheme (YES) Programme has been operating at The Experience since May 2014. To date, the Big Lottery funded scheme has helped 147 young people gain skills and experience of working with members of the public.
Leyla Davis will shortly begin her apprenticeship with DMS training to be an electrician, while Daniel McAdam and Liam Donnelly have been employed full time as Installation Specialists after making the short trip across the road.
DMS is an established figure in Hillington Park specialising in energy performance assessments and offering a full range of energy solution services that help customers cut their bills.
Steven McCaw from DMS said: “It’s great to be able to give local youths the opportunity to work and train into established trades. Not only will they gain valuable skills, they will be future proofing their knowledge by applying these skills towards the zero carbon economy. Demand for our services is huge and our business is growing rapidly and we expect to be taking on further apprenticeships in the New Year.”
Eileen Cummings, Director of Young Workforce Development at The Experience, said: “Since the opening of The Experience, we have been running different programmes designed to help young people gain the skills for mainstream employment. With the YES Programme, we work with those who are furthest from the job market. To have such a positive relationship with one of our neighbouring businesses is hugely beneficial to our young people.
“I want to wish Leyla, Liam and Daniel all the best for the future and hope that we can continue to work with DMS in the future to secure employment for more of our young people in the future.”
